Elect Commissioner Bob Anthony

The Tulsa Beacon - July 19, 2018

The Oklahoma Corporation Commission is not a good spot for someone to “learn on the job.”

Experience and integrity are crucial.

That aptly describes Commissioner Bob Anthony.

Anthony will be on the ballot on the GOP runoff election August 28. He has been endorsed by fellow Republican Harold Spradling (who faced him in the Republican primary on June 26). Anthony has also been endorsed by the Oklahoma Farm Bureau, OKC Friday (newspaper) and the Oklahoma Republican Assemblies (the conservative wing of the state GOP).

In 2012, Anthony won his fifth consecutive six-year term on the Corporation Commission and in that election, he won all 77 Oklahoma counties. That is a tribute to his trustworthiness.

Anthony has an undergraduate degree from Wharton School of Finance at The University of Pennsylvania and degrees from Yale and Harvard universities. You need that kind of academic background to wade through the complex issues that face the state, especially with the public utilities.

Anthony, who formerly was president of his family’s business (C.R. Anthony Co.), is a bulldog when battling for the consumer. Anthony led the charge for regulatory reform. He was on the forefront of the new era of telephone service almost 20 years ago. That update of long-distance service benefitted millions of Oklahomans and boosted economic development in the state.

When public utilities overcharge, Commissioner Anthony holds their feet to the fire and customers get refunds. Bob Anthony works for the taxpayers, not for the utilities, and he has proven that for decades. Oklahoma needs more watchdogs like Commissioner Bob Anthony.

The Tulsa Beacon endorses Bob Anthony in the August 28 Republican runoff election.
