Bob Anthony deserves another term in office

The Norman Transcript - June 16, 2012

NORMAN — The only statewide office on the Republican primary June 26 is a seat on the three-member Corporation Commission. Longtime Commissioner Bob Anthony is seeking re-election to the office he has held since he was first elected to the commission in 1989.

We’re not always a fan of such lengthy tenure in office, but this may be one case where the learning curve is so steep, it requires some longevity to get your hands around the job, develop a vision for future issues and face down bureaucrats and agency hangers-on who know the place inside out.

Mr. Anthony is from a pioneering Oklahoma family that, at one time, had as many as 7,000 employees and more than $400 million in revenues at their clothing stores. He has served both nationally and internationally on councils involving utilities, oil and gas exploration, international accounting standards and regulation.

Mr. Anthony possesses the horsepower to comprehend the ever-changing issues involving energy, communications and transportation. He has pushed for financial transparency and more openness in the agency’s proceedings. He has been honored by groups as diverse as the FBI and AARP. He has earned our trust for another term.
