Oklahoma Corporation Commissioner Bob Anthony off to early fundraising lead for re-election

Republican Bob Anthony, of Oklahoma City, the longtime member of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, has raised more than five times the amount of his Republican challenger.

Republican Bob Anthony, seeking a fifth consecutive six-year term on the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, has raised more than five times the amount of contributions reported by his GOP challenger, according to campaign reports filed Monday.

Anthony reported raising $217,007 for the three-month reporting period of Jan. 1 through March 31, according to his report filed with the state Ethics Commission.

Brooks Mitchell reported raising $42,450, according to his report.

Republican Patrice Douglas, who was appointed last year to the utility regulatory panel, didn’t draw an opponent. Douglas will serve the remainder of a term that ends in 2014.

Douglas reported raising $203,510 during the reporting period.

Anthony, of Oklahoma City, reported having $58,095 on hand before Jan. 1. That gave him a total of $275,102. He reported expenditures of $10,657, which gave him a balance of $264,445 on hand as of March 31.

Mitchell, of Oklahoma City, reported spending $3,387, which left him with a balance of $37,812 on March 31.

Anthony, 63, will face Mitchell, 50, a former commission administrator, in the Republican primary June 26. No Democrats or independents filed for the office, meaning whoever wins the primary election will win the post.

Anthony reported receiving $19,059 from political action committees, which included two $5,000 contributions, the maximum allowed during an election cycle. One was from an Ohio group, the American Electric Power Committee for Responsible Government, and the other was from Chesapeake Energy Corp.’s political action committee.

Mitchell reported receiving no contributions from political action committees.

Douglas, a former mayor of Edmond, was appointed last year by Gov. Mary Fallin after Jeff Cloud resigned to take a job with Continental Resources Inc.

Douglas, 49, reported spending $19,970 during the reporting period, which gave her a balance of $177,966 as of March 31.

She reported receiving $29,800 from political action committees, including two $5,000 contributions. One was from Devon Energy Corp.’s political action committee and the other was from the American Electric Power Committee for Responsible Government.
